The project goal was to convert an existing penicillin manufacturing facility into a non-lactam, (non-penicillin) production plant. The overall project included documentation to define the required demolition of the existing plant to upgrade equipment and controls and to support decontamination efforts required by FDA regulations for such a conversion project.
The effort included process P&IDs, and detailed construction documents covering, process enhancements, process controls and instrumentation, building management control systems, HVAC upgrades, building utility upgrades and the installation of additional process utility support equipment. New process equipment included five new batch reactor trains ranging from 2,000 to 3,500 gallons each. Design documents covering reconfiguration and upgrades to the existing equipment were also included in the project scope.
