Lab/Office Expansion Design + Construction

Agilent Technologies Location: Boulder, Colorado Square Footage: 7,860 Construction Cost: $7,000,000

Project Description:

The Agilent Lab/Office Expansion project was part of the overall NASD (Nucleic Acid Solutions Division) Renovation at the Agilent Facility in Boulder, Colorado. The NASD Division of Agilent Technologies occupies approximately two-thirds of a leased facility in Boulder.

This project was based on the previously developed Strategic Space and Real Estate Report which defined the need for additional lab, office, and support space driven by the expected ramp in production at this facility. The additional laboratory space was designed into the remaining one-third of Agilent's building.

CRB was hired as Agilent's Design/Build partner and was responsible for architectural, mechanical, electrical, and process utilities design, cost estimating, equipment procurement, as well as overall construction management. The project was designed in a phased, multi-year approach, allowing Agilent to construct the project within their annual capital budgets. Programming and conceptual design needed to account for ongoing production and office work at the site. The entire team was active from the initial project kick-off, constructability reviews and value engineering efforts occurred throughout the design life-cycle. By locking project budgets early, construction was able to be completed ahead of schedule.

Project was completed during major flood event in Colorado in 2013.
