CRB Wins Design-Build Award

CRB has received the 2013 “Honor Award” in the Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration (Under $10 million) category from the Design-Build Institute of America, Mid-America Region for the Ceva Biomune Laboratory project in Lenexa, Kansas. The “Honor Award” winner exemplifies the principles of interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation, and problem solving that characterize design-build delivery.
Completed May 2013, Ceva Biomune’s $7,000,000 project involved enlarging 2,200 square feet of existing space into 16,000 sq. ft. of BSL-2 (Bio Safety Level 2) laboratory space along with 16,000 sq. ft. of office space. CRB provided all architecture, design and construction services for the complete renovation and expansion of an existing single-story warehouse into a two-story state of the art research and development laboratory and office space.
“The success of this project is a direct result of the CRB team executing a seamless design-build approach,” said Mark Potts, Facilities Engineer, Ceva Biomune. “The strong combination of design and construction professionals from CRB was undoubtedly the key to executing this very complex project in the shadow of an extremely aggressive schedule.”
An innovative aspect of the project was the adaptive reuse measures taken by CRB in the handling of the construction materials. CRB imposed recycling requirements on demolition, required records for disposal and requested that as much equipment/furniture as possible be donated to charity.
