Mobile Headquarters Planning + MEP Design
Qorvo, a semiconductor company that designs, manufactures and supplies radio-frequency systems for applications that drive wireless and broadband communications, retained CRB for a new three-story headquarters building for its Mobile products.
The building combined 115,000 square feet of flexible, innovative office space with 35,000 square feet of advanced microelectronics labs.
The non-lab space included open office areas dedicated to collaboration and innovation, a training center, a multi-story lobby space and multiple amenities to attract the best and brightest staff.
The labs provided a work environment designed to stimulate innovation and collaboration and benefit employee health and wellness.
The site took advantage of north-facing windows, which allowed for daylighting and views from the labs for occupant benefit and safety. Utilities included a clean-dry air system, nitrogen gas, vacuum and an electrical busway system over the mobile table areas for flexibility.
CRB provided lab planning and mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for the basis of design document and concept layouts. During the lab design programming phase, CRB conducted a collaborative and highly visual process to identify the unique needs of each laboratory. Through the use of a proprietary CRB interview/survey document that allows users to define their project requirements in an hour or less, the team came to a consensus on the drivers for flexibility and safety to support Qorvo’s vision of innovation, scale and speed.
CRB also walked down each separate Qorvo building where laboratories existed in leased facilities and conducted an extensive layout and engineering capacity analysis. Labs were generally located on the first two floors, and some needed direct access to the loading dock for incoming and outgoing materials. Due to the sensitivity of the electronic equipment used in the labs, vibration mitigation was designed into the structural system.
CRB helped Qorvo select a development team for the new construction and provided oversight and peer review of the final design documents.
